It was simply to sloppy for the competitive crowd, and not enough MK for the MK crowd. People keep saying no one wants to see such and such get fatalitied, but I challenge that notion. I think a shit ton of people want to see Batman get his spine ripped from his body. Like comic book fans can deal with a twelve year old get his brain burned out of his skull and and innocent person get beaten to death with a crowbar, but can't handle Wonder Woman be sawed in half? No, I think that is a cop out dismissal of a valid complaint. Mortal Kombat has always been over the top and gory, so if you are going to put the two together you need to go all the way.

I must be one of the very few that could care less about the gore factor in MK games and this is coming from someone who absolutely loves MK games. If they removed fatalities altogether going forward it would never bother me. I love the games because of the gameplay, mechanics, characters and the mythology. So the T rating has no bearing on me for my enjoyment of this game. And, I completely understand DC being protective in making sure their characters don't get their spines ripped out from their body. I think this game is really fun and a lot of the gameplay and mechanics laid the groundwork for future MK and Injustice games (first MK game to use Unreal Engine, first MK game with a story mode in this format, breakers becoming meter dependent, free fall kombat and test your might becoming stage transitions in the Injustice series, close kombat arguably morphing into the clash system).
